Living Museums

There are no dusty museums in Holbæk.

The cooperative village Nyvang is a living cultural historical museum covering the period between 1870 and 1950, the heyday of the cooperative movement in Denmark. At the smallholder´s you may enjoy an old-fashioned cup of war coffee from the characteristic blue enamel coffeepot “Madam Blå” while the sow grunts in the pigsty. In the forge the blacksmith swings his hammer and the clanging of metal fills the room. All in all there are 21 different houses and shops telling their own stories from the days of the cooperative movement.

Holbæk Museum is a true centenarian with 13 unique buildings from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries situated in the centre of the town. The museum offers permanent and changing exhibition challenging the visitor´s senses. The museum is also very much for kids, among other activities offering so-called “clog searches” and exciting family themes on Sundays.
